Cables

Performance of fire tests on single cables and insulated lines (without cable support systems) to assess the functional integrity in the event of fire under stipulated conditions.

The necessary test procedures and performance requirements including a recommended period of exposure to flames are described in the relevant Standards.

The resources for sample preparation, the arrangement for continuity testing, the electrical test procedures and the methods for burning the cables and insulated lines are described and the requirements for assessing the test results are specified.

The test procedures are intended to cover, amongst other things, low voltage power cables and lines as well as control cables with nominal voltage.

Standard Title of the Standard
IEC 60331-21 Tests for electric cables under fire conditions - Circuit integrity - Part 21: Procedures and requirements - Cables of rated voltage up to and including 0.6/1.0 kV (IEC 60331-21)
IEC 60331-23 Tests for electric and optical fibre cables under fire conditions. Circuit integrity. Part 23. Procedures and requirements. Electric data cables
